How the Deal Room works

The Deal Room connects investors with businesses and projects in African markets. ABTA screens every listing and every request, and makes introductions itself.

Before you start

Membership costs £99 a year, plus VAT where applicable. You will need:

  • a work email address
  • your organisation’s registered name, country of registration and registration number
  • to be authorised to act for your organisation
  • a debit or credit card

For investors, lenders and buyers

  1. Join the Deal Room. Create an account, accept the Platform Membership Agreement and Non-Disclosure Agreement, and pay the membership fee.
  2. ABTA verifies your organisation. We check your organisation’s registration and screen it against sanctions lists before any introduction.
  3. Browse anonymised opportunities. Listings show the sector, region, deal type, capital sought and key features. They do not name the business or its people.
  4. Express interest. Tell ABTA why the opportunity fits your mandate, in no more than 250 words, and confirm your eligibility.
  5. ABTA screens your request. We review suitability, credibility and fit. We aim to reply within 5 business days.
  6. Introduction. If the request is suitable, ABTA sends an Introduction Notice to both parties. This is the only way identities are shared.
  7. You talk directly. The parties may sign their own mutual non-disclosure agreement and negotiate directly. ABTA does not act as adviser or broker.

For businesses, sponsors and advisers

  1. Join the Deal Room and sign in.
  2. Submit your opportunity. Describe it without naming the business, people or exact locations. You can upload supporting documents.
  3. ABTA reviews it. We aim to reply within 5 business days. We may ask for more information.
  4. ABTA prepares the listing. If your opportunity meets ABTA’s criteria, we contact you to agree the anonymised wording before it is published.
  5. ABTA screens interested parties and introduces suitable ones to you through an Introduction Notice.

What is kept confidential

Listings are anonymised. Contact details and documents you upload are seen only by the ABTA team until an introduction is made. Members agree to the Non-Disclosure Agreement before they can express interest.

Fees

Membership is £99 a year, plus VAT where applicable. There is no fee for expressing interest or for introductions.

If you list an opportunity and it leads to a completed deal with a party ABTA introduced, you pay a success fee of 1.798% of the transaction value, plus VAT where applicable.
